Happy holidays, scR fans and
followers. It's that time of year where the race cars are put into
hibernation, the snow begins to fall, and the plans for 2004 are
formulated. James' strong 5th place finish at Mid-Ohio in October (Mark
and John were unable to attend in the #21 and #55 cars respectively) put
an end to a season-long string of consistent finishes that the team will
carry into the coming year. At least part of the team, that is...
There is some very happy news and
some very sad news to report from the scR camp this month. First, the
good news: Team founder and leader, James Walker, Jr. and his wife Dana
are expecting their second child in April. Their first child, Zack, has
brought great joy into their lives. And we certainly expect more of the
same with blessing number two. We all wish the best for the Walker
family as the number of seats at their dining room table expands.
Now for the sad news: Running a
race team is an extremely time and resource intensive effort. Raising a
family is also a very time and resource intensive effort. When race team
requirements are added to family requirements, the Walker family is left
with a deficit. Thus the decision has been reluctantly made by James to
sell his race-winning #34 1992 SC ITA racecar, effective immediately.
James plans to continue racing
with karts - particularly with an eye toward getting Zack started in the
sport as soon as he is old enough. But for now, his SCCA days will
probably be limited to a few rental weekends just to keep his license
current. That, or he will be begging and pleading with Mark and John to
let him share their cars...
With certainty, Mark and John will
miss sharing the track with James; however, his absence also opens the
door of opportunity for them. As John has pointed out tongue-in-cheek,
James always runs near the front at every race, making it more likely
that John or Mark may inherit his position.
As for the car itself, the sale
and liquidation of the #34 (and available spare parts) will be a
turn-key race-winning operation for the lucky buyer who ends up with it.
James' red #34 racecar is one of the best-built ITA cars in the entire
country - and is probably the best example of racecar building and
preparation in the entire Saturn motorsport community. It features only
the best top-quality components including many custom designed and
fabricated solutions.
James estimates that the cost to
duplicate the #34 car would exceed $35,000.00. Fortunately, he is asking
much, much less. For more details about the #34 car (including about 35
color photos,) please visit
http://www.teamscr.com/forsale.htm or
email James at teamscr@flash.net. After all, it's not too late to pick
up a last minute gift for someone special on your list :)
For now, Mark Rushbrook and John
Comeskey plan to continue to race under the scR banner in 2004. Be sure
to catch the latest news, schedule changes, race recaps, and photo and
video galleries (and maybe even some karting footage?) at the updated
scR website located at
http://www.teamscr.com.
Until next year, have a safe and
happy holiday season! Go Saturn!!!
